Dear Friends,

This is just to let you know the upcoming activities of MYCS from this week onward. Since Christmas is on the way, it's time for each of us to make this way ready and pleasant. Here with, I give you the general plan for what we are going to do in the coming days.

Singing Practice for Caroling: Every Thursday and Saturday (Beginning this week Nov 19)

This is the general plan of our upcoming activities. I would appreciate very much for your suggestions, opinions and comments. Please feel free to do so! At the same time, I want to encourage everyone to come for the singing practice so as not to create any inconvenience later. Christmas comes only once a year, friends. You all know what it feels like to be in Christmas season.

Reflection for the International Youth and Environment Conference

November 14th to 19th Indonesia:

On the 13th November, the two representative persons from MYCS and KUSG Thailand went to Java Island which is situated in Indonesia. We stayed in Jakarta for one night and next day, we left to Palangka Raya (in Kalimantan Island). We arrived there round about 12:30 pm, and then took rest for a while and attended an opening ceremony in the conference room.

This Indonesia trip gave me a lot of experiences, and challenges. What I haven't seen in my life I have seen it and what I have never thought of it I have to think about it and challenge me to do in my day to day life and for my future.

It was really scaring for me to see the environmental situation of the Indonesia because of Deforestation. When I step on the land of Kalimantan the heat was so terrible. Suppose to be the surrounding of the rainforest place must be cool and wet the whole year. If we want to see big trees we have to go to the deep Jungle. It is not easy to have big forest again for the Kalimantan Island.

On the First day, they welcomed us and explained us why did they choose to invite us to Kalimantan Island. In the past decade, this island was called the world lungs because it was one of the richest island in its beauty and biological diversity in the world.

Later Kalimantan was facing an ecological threat because of logging and mining or many commercial agriculture enterprises activities were some of its worst cases. 75% of the Kalimantan area was forest in the year of 1980. From 1985 to 2000, the forest of Kalimantan has been gradually decreased about 850,000 hectares per year, and from the year of 2000 to 2500 it will decrease about 1,2 million hectares per year; 148 hectares per hour or 2,5 hectares per minute.

There is no virgin forest in Kalimantan today. In many places, the jungle expanse of Kalimantan has been turned into desert. This scene points out me to ask that Kalimantan is still a lung of the world?

Present scene points out that they are facing a very critical situation today. This bad result happens because of the human greedy, so they have to integrate rescuing movement must be done immediately. This movement must involve all people beyond the nation, religion, culture, profession and age boundaries. This intention will have to save the environment has been announced since a long time.

Now, Global warming threatening us and yet people are still making profit from the forest and also not concerning much for the next generation.

After attending and observing the situation of Kalimantan Island, I had learned that almost all the countries from South East Asia's forest were cut down and almost all the hard wood were gone. If we are neglecting and continuously cutting down of the trees without replanting them, one day it will be in danger for the future. All of us can think that, that is a work of the Government but it is the responsibility of all the people and especially for young people of today has to be aware and need to take care to our nature and environment.

God created human to take care to the nature only and not allow destroying it. But it doesn't mean that we can't use the trees for our needs and also take care for the next generation. We young people have responsibility to help and support the nature to maintain their beauties as much as we can.

Rev.Keloso S.Ugak mentions that "Creation is not only man but nature also."

Whenever we talk about creation we only focus on the human and not mentioning about nature. Through this theological understanding, human is placed as the dominion of others and nature is to be consumed for human satisfaction without balance preservation for nature itself. In this case, the injustice took place between human and nature indeed God created both of them.

Mostly, I didn't aware that nature and our human relationship, and also. After observing this reality in Kalimantan and through sharing from the different nations, I came to realize how important to take care to our environment and must treasure it for our living. Without forests and trees on earth we can't live and survive and also animals who are living in the forest can't survive to live also. So we are the main cause of this ruin because we destroy the nature which God created.

In this moment of my thinking, I have to try to reconcile with the nature and also have to be one with the Nature.
As a youth of today like what we have MYCS and IMCS, we need to do a lot of good deeds to the people than past time and concern for the people who are in difficult moment, I try to propose all my youth members to be aware of the environmental Issue and we have to look after and support the nature also.

If we don't take a step start from this moment it will be very much effected and will give troubles to our new generation. They will be suffering a lot of bad things. So we are working for people and also searching for human rights and at the same time we have to promote and talk about this issue to all people and how to take care and support our nature (environment).

Now, some organizations have started to help nature as part of the term creation. So our activities or any program whatever we make, we need to share this issue to the young of today. It is not only for anyone will be in danger but all mankind have to suffer by Global warming. So, this issue is really important and sufficient to discuss about it and make aware of it at this present moment.

One thing I admire also to the volunteers youth who are working for the street children, although they work the whole day, at the evening time they go to the center and teach to the poor children. Their smile and their selves giving can be seen from the faces of the children.

Parents were accepted and some parents offer the places for them to gather the children. It is great challenge for me and asking me a lot of questions that, am I ready to take a risk to give myself for others?

Above all I would like to thank the Lord for this great chance to attend this conference and thank to members of the CCI youth group and IMCS youth group that they have shared their life experiences, and share their joy that strengthen me to have courage to face challenges and to do something for my future program.

Brief Reflection of “Self-developmental Youth Training”

At Epiphany Church, Yangon Catholic Archdiocese, Myanmar

Organization Background

In the Glory of God, we would like to share you about some of our experience what we have done in these days. We, Myanmar Young Catholic Students - Bangkok (MYCS-BKK), are the organization which is working for Social, Intellectual, and Spiritual affairs of Myanmar Catholic Students. All the MYCS-BKK members are students who are studying in a variety of subjects in Thailand.

We are always considering and trying to help the people outside and inside Myanmar especially the students and the youngsters. We have many activities such as; Praise and Worship, Meetings and Discussions with others Students’ Organizations, Educational and Social Trainings, Volunteering and working with some NGOs and Institutes.

Training Report

Recently, we had a chance to organize the youth training in inside Myanmar. We had the contact with the youth leaders from Epiphany Church, Myanmar to organize training for youth there. We planned and prepared to organize that training for about 2 months. We started that idea to provide the effective ways of generating general knowledge of Self-development for the youth.

We named the training as “Self-developmental Youth Training” held at Epiphany Church, Yangon Catholic Archdiocese, Myanmar on October 18-19, 2008 (Saturday & Sunday). Around 60 youth participated in that training. Some members from the executive committee of Epiphany Church helped and served fully on the training with their own strength during the training. We had about 10 observers from another churches. The Epiphany youth had been brainstorming and had gained the basic concept of critical thinking.

The topics are

Public Speaking,
Virtue project,
Time management,
Catholic Social Teachings, &
Bible & Youth.

The objectives are

To build a good relationship among the youth,
To be able to speak systematically in public,
To know more about how to read and study the holy bible,
To be able to manage our time effectively in daily life, &
To understand and do what the Catholic Church teaches us in the social life.

We invited some priests and the laity who have much knowledge about youth and a lot of experiences of dealing with youth. Actually, they come from the professional fields; moreover, they were the very active and supportive youth leaders before. Those people are still continuing and helping the youth in many ways.

We have successfully done the “Self-developmental Youth Training” in two days under the blessing of God with the help of speakers, volunteers, donors and those who prayed for us. Therefore, we give our special thanks to The Holy One, Our Living God for His Grace and Blessing. And also we very much thank to every single person involving and helping the training, especially the parish priest of Epiphany Church, the speakers who gave the speeches to the youth, the volunteers who helped the training with all their strength, those who donated the training expenses, and those who prayed for us.

The World is the altar and the Word is the seed in a resilient post disaster Myanmar

Returning home is both joyful and painful to hundreds of coastal villagers, who are trekking back to their cyclone Nargis devastated villages. Joyful because the rootless life as refugees in the camps is over, painful because they come back to the villages where the spirit of those who perished hover over them every minute. There are damaged houses and schools. In many places the temples, churches and pagodas are damaged.

Deep in the Ei Ma, in Pathein Diocese, where the parish priest Andrew Soe Win perished in the rescue mission, the returnee number is a slow trickle. Their church is gone and their pastor was buried. " Our altar around which we used to come as a village community is gone. And our Priest who used to tell us so many good things is gone. We were refugees, we begged for our bread in the last months. We do hope our way of the Cross is over. We are happy to back where our homes used to be.' Said a returnee.

Spiritual rehabilitation remains a challenge. Many churches are still in ruins. 'The altar is gone'. From the field, from the refugee camps, the church people are also returning to the original villages. Teilhard De Chardin, the Priest- paleontologist, was once forced to be in China without mass. Despite the absence of bread and the altar, he could continue to celebrate every morning, his own version of Mass without upsetting the authorities. Described in mystical lyricism, he describes the majestic morning sun as the bread and the world clothed in morning light as the altar. The sun awakens life to activity after a dark night.

Without proper churches and scattered communities, we too feel that sense of breaking bread with the broken people of Myanmar. On the altar of suffering, with tears in their eyes, men and women sought fellowship in refugee camps and broken churches. With the generous assistance from the all of you, the universal church and the Caritas network, we reached out to hundreds of refugees, carrying food 'feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and healing the sick.' Church'. We accompanied them in their way of the Cross. Like Simon of Syrenne, hundreds of young men and women, volunteered to help the victims in the last three months.

Now life asserts like an early morning in all around Myanmar. Farmers have returned to the fields, the mothers are busy with sending their children back to school and in the fields the seeds are once again sprouting, fighting the dark days of cyclone Nargis. The human spirit fights back in every field.

As the Church we are grateful and humbled that we could be of great service to all the people, reaching out as the first group in many areas. Our liturgy moved to the camps and to the destroyed villages. The world became the altar for us and our people and where ever affected people lived, we could carry the message of God's love and Church concern through the emergency services. The hope our volunteers brought is the seed of resilience.

Comprehensive rehabilitation is a long and winding road. Spiritual healing is a long process. Psycho Social volunteers are trained for every parish. Physical rehabilitation with rebuilding houses and livelihood regeneration is emerging as a stout challenge.

As the media attention dims, the NGOs who rushed in are slowing down in response. We stay with our people, and are determined to accompany our people in their journey of rehabilitation. The needs are very huge and the number of people seeking our help is fast increasing.

To all of you who responded with magnificent generosity, the people of Myanmar owe a debt of gratitude. Far too long you have known the incremental suffering our people. When nature colluded with other forces, thousands perished. Our fellowship continues. For those who survived, we wish to bring the bread of hope in the altar of their resilience.

Attention for 2008 Parents Day

According to the last meeting, for Parent's Day party on August 2, 2008, we are now preparing very well.

Although we are preparing nicely our Parents Day Program as the following aspects, we are still missing the most important part which is the specific objectives for our party why we celebrate it and we need to know ourselves first besides to demonstrate to all our participants when we invite them and when they come to our party even unwillingly. We appreciate to have your reply after reading this email. Just simple and short a word, phrase, clause, statement or sentence, anything of your motivation to your parents. That would be your best gift to your parents for this year we hope.

We, the members have to contribute 150 Baht to diocese organizers for our party. Please, our Diocese Organizers collect the money by June 30, 2008 then send it to th treasure.

We will distribute the coupons to all the members to sell in 100 Baht each for our party within first week of July.

We will print and sell the creative and good quality T-shirt to wear on that day as MYCS uniform a week before that party. Price will be not more than 200 Baht for each shirt. For that T-shirt design and production, we urgently need a person or group who have accountability and time to help EC as volunteers within a week. One Photoshop Designer is needed and we demand also someone who know about printing service in Bangkok.

We will start to print and distribute the pan flat all about MYCS at our party and for future activities.

We will invite only the Burmese teachers as much as we know to come to our party but the total population size of Burmese teachers all near 300 persons. Thus, please kindly let EC know how many Burmese teachers you know in ABAC and who they are and how we can invite them.

For the entertainment and stage show, please prepare at least one program for each diocese. For those who want to sing solo, please contact Mr. Nyan Tun, Mr. Richard and Mr. Felix to practice the songs early. We recommend the diocese entertainments better to see anything except songs. But it can be creative and distinct from each in order to have a colorful concert for example acting with roll plays, cultural shows, dancings or whatever. Because we have solo show already and we will sing the songs the whole program as we all know. However, we suggest and propose that we are free to join with any of our talent to pay our respect to our parents with in 10 minutes for diocese programs.

For Documentation, we would like to request Mr. Nyi Too to record the party as the official video man and Mr. Victor John as the official photographer.

Compassion is the common religion in the Post Nargis Myanmar

As the waters raged in the predominantly Christian village, the monks from the nearby monastery were on the noble mission of saving people. A monk swam across the currents to pull out a woman who was about to be dragged by the marauding river. In the far off Phyapon, where the Christian group Karuna was distributing aid to the survivors they choose Buddhist monks as their partners in distributing aid to non Christian villages.

All religious groups were made victims by the cyclone. All places of worship-monasteries, clergy houses and convents bore the brunt of the deadly cyclone. Nargis, in its monstrous ferocity tore through many of the famous places of worship of all religions. In Aima, in the Pathein Diocese, Fr Andrew Soe win, offered his life as a supreme sacrifice in trying to reach his marooned people. His body was found after 18 days.

But nothing deterred them from the sacred duty of saving lives. In the predominately Buddhist Country, where Metta and Karuna [mercy and compassion) are the major tenets of a great religion, compassion broke forth like a healing stream after the demonic deluge. Churches and Monasteries became the refugee camps. With death and mayhem threatening them in their villages, thousands took refugee in sacred spaces, seeking coping and mutual consolation. Even before the government could move in, or the do-gooders and NGOs could move in, spontaneous charity sprang forth with Buddhists feeding Christians and Christians feeding the Buddhists etc. Nargis broke many things in an evil way. Goodness broke all parochial borders that fateful night when death danced arrogantly across wounding a nation.

In Bogalay the Hindu temple opened its portals to feed the multitude. In the ravished streets of Yangon, Muslim merchants were distributing food to the starving masses. More poignant was the response of many poor and lower middle class people. They collected whatever they had and every weekend they treaded across in aid convoy to far off Labutta. Nargis stripped naked a nation with violence but people of all faiths are clothing it now with compassion.

With other Christian Communities, Catholics threw in everything into rescue - money, material and man power. Many young men and women volunteered to go to the risky villages, strewn with dead bodies of people and animals. The first psycho social assistance came from nuns who risked their lives, by undertaking dangerous boat travels, without life jacket etc. They were the first ones to hold mothers who lost their children, carried orphans and consoled a grieving community with prayer and simple presence. Hundreds of seminarians were the first rescuers, clearing the villages of debris. All these are done under extreme restrictions. Through the national Caritas, assistance continues.

Compassion is the common religion in the post disaster phase. In Myanmar people lived with various tags - religion, colour and tribe. But now Nargis taught us all, that human tears have no colour, no religion, and no tribe.

Pope Notes Signs of Hope in Myanmar Cites Increased Vocations, Enthused Laity

VATICAN CITY, MAY 30, 2008 (Zenit.org).- While addressing the sufferings of the people of Myanmar in the wake of this month's deadly cyclone, Benedict XVI notes signs of hope in the country. The Pope commented today on the increasing number of vocations and activity of the laity when he received in audience prelates from the episcopal conference of Myanmar. They were completing their five-yearly visit to Rome.

Speaking in English, the Holy Father noted, "The Church in Myanmar is known and admired for its solidarity with the poor and needy. This has been especially evident, in the concern you have shown in the aftermath of the cyclone Nargis."

The Church had been at the forefront of aid delivery since Cyclone Nargis struck Myanmar on May 2, although held back by the ruling military junta that claimed for days that it had the operation under control. State radio reports 78,000 people were killed and another 55,000 remain missing after the storm. But aid groups estimate that the real number is closer to128,000, with another 2.5 million left homeless.

"During these difficult days, I know how grateful the Burmese people are for the Church's efforts to provide shelter, food, water, and medicine to those still in distress," the Pontiff said. He assured the bishops that the Church "is joined spiritually with those who mourn the loss of loved ones."

"May God open the hearts of all so that a concerted effort may be made to facilitate and coordinate the ongoing endeavor to bring relief to the suffering and rebuild the country's infrastructure," he added.

Vocations

Benedict XVI comment as well on the increase of vocations in the country: "The Church's mission of charity shines forth in a particular way through the religious life, by which men and women devote themselves with 'undivided' heart to the service of God and neighbor.

"I am pleased to note that an increasing number of women are responding to the call to consecrated life in your region. I pray that their free and radical acceptance of the evangelical counsels will inspire others to embrace the life of chastity, poverty and obedience for the sake of the Kingdom."

"Similar signs of hope are seen in the rising number of vocations to the priesthood," said the Pope. "These men are both 'called together' and 'sent out to preach' to be examples of faithfulness and holiness for the People of God."

The Holy Father encouraged the prelates of Myanmar "to continue making the necessary sacrifices to ensure that seminarians receive the integral formation that will enable them to become authentic heralds of the New Evangelization."

"The Church's mission to spread the Good News depends on a generous and prompt response from the lay faithful to become laborers in the vineyard," the Holy Father explained. "They too are in need of a robust and dynamic Christian formation which will inspire them to carry the Gospel message to their workplaces, families, and to society at large."

The Pontiff also commented on "the enthusiasm with which the laity are organizing many new catechetical and spiritual initiatives, often involving great numbers of young people."

He encouraged the bishops "to remind those under your care to turn continually to the nourishment of the Eucharist through participation in the liturgy and silent contemplation."

"Your active participation in the First Asian Mission Congress has led to new initiatives for promoting goodwill with Buddhists in your country," continued Benedict XVI. "In this regard, I encourage you as you develop ever better relations with Buddhists for the good of your
individual communities and of the entire nation."

The Pope expressed his "sincere gratitude" to the prelates for "your faithful ministry in the midst of difficult circumstances and setbacks often beyond your control."

It is a month since the face of Myanmar has changed. Nearly 150,000 of our country men and women are no more with us. On that fateful night, the deadly cyclone Nargis changed the map of Myanmar in Yangon and Ayeyawaddy Delta. Satellite images graphically registered the 'before and after pictures', portraying a destruction of large tracts of land. What any satellite could not register was the mutilation of soul of our graceful and long suffering people.

We are a nation in mourning. 2.3 million of our people have a new name: refugees and homeless. At this very moment, when you are reading this report, thousands who survived nature's gory violence, will be lining up in some remote villages, waiting for food and aid. The dead are also waiting for a decent burial – Yes! On the top of the trees, floating in waters and in the bushes and roadside, the spirit of our people is waiting for eternal rest.

With grateful heart, I thank you all, the world, the leaders and ordinary people who rushed with great compassion. The Church as a compassionate mother reaches out to every human tragedy. You have known our pain for too long, but when nature colluded in increasing the pain, you rose as a one family. A big THANKS to you all.

Doing good is a Herculean challenge in our nation. We are a church challenged from all directions. In those affected areas, all our churches, convents, clergy houses, orphanages lie in ruins. Yet from the day one, we have been going in search of survivors, many times being the first outsiders to reach them. A dedicated team of Karuna (Caritas) staff, church personnel and volunteers have been working day and night in the most affected areas. We are saving lives, we are bringing hope. With the arrival of the Emergency Response Support Team, we feel encouraged, guided and accompanied in our endeavor to reach out. Thousands receive life-saving assistance, shelter and other basic needs.

Nature, in anguish and fury, uncovered the permanent disasters of a long suffering people. China's earthquake response exposed painful contrasts. The world needs to journey with the people of Myanmar for long time. Media's attention to human tragedy is swift - but also passing. Humanitarian response cannot follow the media. Myanmar needs longer accompaniment, a sustained attention of the world community. This report, I hope, will facilitate that long march with our people.

There could be only one message, coming out of the tragedy of Nargis:

"Myanmar cannot be forgotten once again."

Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolate Delegate to Myanmar visited Yangon and the affected areas aftermath of tragic Cyclone Nargis on May 8 and offered the Holy Mass at 11:00 a.m. for the victims at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Yangon together with Archbishop Charles Bo and Auxiliary Bishop Justin of Yangon Archdiocese, Bishop Raymond Pa Ray of Mawlamyine Diocese, Bishop Philip Za Hawng of Lashio Diocese and Bishop Emiritus Mahn Erie of Pathein Diocese. The Mass was also concelebrated by 56 priests, in the presence of 100 religious men and women and around 1000 faithful.

Before the penitential rite, Apostolate Delegate read the Message of the Holy Father to the congregation. In his homily, the Delegate, expressing the Holy Father’s sympathy, solidarity and prayers for the victims of Cyclone Nargis and the people of Myanmar, delivered the congregation the message of consolation and hope reflecting upon the unconditional compassion and love of God to humanity and giving the assurances of heartfelt prayers, concern and concrete humanitarian supports. He encouraged them to put their trust in God - the best hope of all, for the only valid response to human pain and suffering is Christ, who wishes to penetrate the soul of every sufferer through the heart of his holy Mother, the first and the most exalted of all the redeemed.

Before the end of the Mass, Archbishop Charles Bo, on behalf of the congregation and the people of Myanmar expressed, heartfelt gratitude to the Holy Father for his message of sympathy and solidarity for the people of Myanmar and for his concrete gesture of love and compassion in the person of His Grace Salvatore Pennacchio, the Apostolic Delegate to Myanmar, whom he also thanked as well for coming to Myanmar as representative of the Holy Father giving the message of consolation and hope by offering the Holy Mass for the victims and people of Myanmar and by visiting some affected parishes and areas in the devastated region.

The Archbishop also mentioned that the losses claimed by Cyclone Nargis are enormous with the number of death toll from 25,000 to 100,000 and hundred thousands of people missing including one priest and one nun. Over 15–16 villages like Laputta in Delta region simply disappeared. Many Catholic villages were also seriously damaged. A great city of Yangon has turned into dry zone and become bare with 70% of trees in the city was uprooted. All the Churches, clergy houses and convents somehow shared the disaster.

The Apostolic Delegate, after the Mass, visited the affected areas and particularly Twante parish church situated in one of the worst damaged regions witnessing hundreds of families displaced and homeless and the destructions and casualties all around.

The Church in Myanmar is appealing from different international agencies and organizations coordinated support and urgent assistance for the suffering people of Myanmar. Myanmar Disaster Relief Committee under the leadership of Yangon Archdiocese is working its best to implement concrete assistance programs to 60,000 families such as; distribution of one week dry ration and water; helping in cleaning of wells for purification of water; distribution of essential cooking vessels, clothing, candles, fuel needs and etc…; distribution of temporary shelter materials; and medical camps in 8 most devastated areas.

"The damage is huge and many lives were taken, no one could clear the dead bodies. The alive have to take clothes from the dead as they don't have anything to cover. Many are naked. No one dares going back to their old places as they are much frightened. Some go crazy. Many lost their family. Still don't know whether they are in the refugee camps or dead or suffering in the place where no one could go. Among the refugees, only few children and women are seen."

Summary of Retreat and New EC Election for 2008-2009

Retreat and New Committee Election of MYCS for 2008-2009 was started on 12 April 2008 at 17:30. The MC of the program was Mr. Phyo Kyaw who was a president-to-be for 2008-2009. The opening prayer was by Aye Aye Khine, a new comer. The introduction of MYCS was started right after the opening prayer. Dinner was served at 18:00.

At 19:00, the first talk was “Youth and Future” which was given by Mr. Bernard Hlaing Myo Aung. Multiple intelligent and emotional intelligent are included in his talk which was lasted for two hours. After the first talk, three groups were divided and taken the hourly duties for the next day. The program was ended at 21:30 for Day 1.

In Day 2, which was 13 April 2008, the Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr Rev. Fr. Gregorio, the spiritual director of Myanmar Young Catholic Students at 07:00. The second talk was started at 08:30 and was given by Rev. Fr. Patrick Saw Zay Han. As the title of the second talk was “Youth and Spirituality”, the meaning of spirituality for youngster was defied. As the same time, “the pencil and its Maker” was given as an example to show the life of a pencil to burden its life. After the second talk, confession was followed till lunch time.

In the afternoon, several ways of meditation was introduced by our Rev. Fr. Gregorio and centering prayer was the one emphasized as a workshop. MYCS members were enthusiastically and enjoyably learned and practiced about it. In order to be more affection to each other, social games were also involved aiming to have the fondness and warmth among MYCS members. After dinner, New Committee Election for 2008-2009 was held. Later on, the Holy Hour of adoration was celebrated nonstop from 23:30 to 06:30. All members joined it actively.

Day 3, which was 14 April, 2008, was begun with the Holy Mass as usual. It was also the Mass for the blessing of New Committee Members. After breakfast, talk 3, Youth and Education, was conducted by Rev. Fr. Ammoy, Campus Minister of Assumption University. In order to encourage MYCS members, he showed limbless Nick from Australia how he survives in life and conquers his hope to reach the human society. He also presented about the gifted child as well as the courage of the butterfly as a sample to survive in life.

Talk 4 was held after talk 3 which was conducted by Mr. Benny Paul whose topic was “Social & Career Assessments included in NGOs”. He shared his job experience on both government sector and non-government sector. The organization he works with was the first Burmese NGO in Thailand and MYCS members are invited to volunteer in this organization.

After lunch, the evaluation of MYCS for 2007 was conducted by Mr. Isaacs John the formal president, Mr. Ellias the formal vice president. The closing Accounts MYCS was conducted by Teresa Ma Lay and transferred to the new treasurer, Agnes Smoe. After that, group photo was taking at King David. The Annual retreat and New Committee Member Election was successfully concluded on 15 April 2008 at 15:00 with the help of donors and sponsors.

Singing Practice

The Brick

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared.

Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting,

"What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?"

The young boy was apologetic.

"Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do," He pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..."

With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car.

"It's my brother," he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up."

Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive,

"Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay.

"Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger.

Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message:

"Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!"

God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.

God and the Spider

During World War II, a US marine was separated from his unit on a Pacific island. The fighting had been intense, and in the smoke and the crossfire he had lost touch with his comrades.

Alone in the jungle, he could hear enemy soldiers coming in his direction. Scrambling for cover, he found his way up a high ridge to several small caves in the rock. Quickly he crawled inside one of the caves.

Although safe for the moment, he realized that once the enemy soldiers looking for him swept up the ridge, they would quickly search all the caves and he would be killed.

As he waited, he prayed, Lord, if it be your will, please protect me. Whatever your will though, I love you and trust you. Amen.

After praying, he lay quietly listening to the enemy begin to draw close. He thought, "well, I guess the Lord isn't going to help me out of this one." Then he saw a spider begin to build a web over the front of his cave.

As he watched, listening to the enemy searching for him all the while, the spider layered strand after strand of web across the opening of the cave.

Hah, he thought. "What I need is a brick wall and what the Lord has sent me is a spider web. God does have a sense of humor."

As the enemy drew closer he watched from the darkness of his hideout and could see them earching one cave after another. As they came to his, he got ready to make his last stand. To his amazement, however, after glancing in the direction of his cave, they moved on.

Suddenly, he realized that with the spider web over the entrance, his cave looked as if no one had entered for quite a while. Lord, forgive me, prayed the young man. I had forgotten that in you a spider's web is stronger than a brick wall.

We all face times of great trouble. When we do, it is so easy to forget the victories that God would work in our lives, sometimes in the most surprising ways.

Remember: "Whatever is happening in your life, with God, a mere spiders web can become a brick wall of protection. Believe He is with you always and you will see His great power and love for you ....."

1. Everyone please bring a present the MYCS Christmas & New Year party.

2. Invite your friends as you wish and please inform to Suzanne, sici.carthage@gmail.com how many people will come because of food and some arrangements.

3. Prepare well your performances by diocese or individual and every diocese perform at least two programs . If they are songs, must be Christianity songs according to the suggestion of Fr. Saw San Win, Chaplin of MYCS.

4. You are invited for some donation from your will to MYCS's party except 100 Baht by giving a hand. It will be collected by Ma Lay, dwaymeanaw@gmail.com & Agnes Smoe, smoe.ayaygn@gmail.com through Diocese organizers.

5. Every MYCS memeber is seriously invited to stay from the beginning to the end of the programs because we have two parts; Social & Liturgy decided from the meeting of Diocese leaders. (Social program will be from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Liturgy will be from 10:00 pm to 12:30 pm on 31 December, 2007).

6. Bring your things with yourselves together that you usually use like jackets or sweaters , medicine and etc in order to the the program is long.

7. Contact and Send the titles of your performances list and MP3 files to Nyan Tun, nyanhtun.albert@gmail.com in detail because he can arrange the concert programs and find the notes for you singing or if you need a guitarist to play your songs, he will take care of it surely.

8. Prepare the special & specific intentions for Taize prayer service by discussing with your Diocese members because it will come out like General prayer Service one Diocese by one. (Five to ten sentences paragraph and prepare the intention prayer in your own languages to show up our solidarity).

9. We are willing to invite any volunteer to share & give Christmas message to the participants of the party with the Catholic view point. Please, contact Ko Ellay for preparation.

10. You are warmly welcomed as volunteers to Join and Help the incharges for each program with your cool ideas and helpful hands according to that is just a family's party.

Discussion on Last Saturday

Dear All,

Last Saturday, we discussed about having a midnight mass on 31 Dec! The place is decided and we are going to hold the Mass at ABAC Salle De Expo! Because today after Evening Mass at Bangna, I talked to Br.Amnuay and he told me that he is going to reserve the room for us! For that event, Nyan Htun will responsible for the concert, so, anyone who would like to participate in the concert please contact Nyan Htun!

Another point that we talked about is: we are going to create a group online to gather the information of our members!!! So, please accept our invitation! (I am not sure where I will create the group: Yahoo or Google) I will inform you all right after I created the group! If possible please upload your photos too! If you don't know how to upload your photos, kindly please give your photo to Olive Aye or Suzanne.

Another point is that we are going to collect the donation for the party! We will collect 100 baht from everyone! And please give that money to your diocese organiser! And if you want to donate more than 100, you are very welcome to do so!

And there will be a carolling right after the X'mas... that will be on 26th and 27th! And the practises will be on 22nd and 23rd! Please come and join us for the carolling! On the very first Saturday of the year 2008, 5th Jan 2008, there will be a burmese Mass and in that Mass, Phyo Kyaw and Sandra Jue will be sharing about their trip to Philipine!!! Please join the Mass! There are some points I missed out!!! Please forgive me for that! I will inform you all once I find out the things that I missed out!!! Thanks for your time!

Last Saturday's Discussion .....

Dear All,

I am sorry, I didn't post about the discussion on last Saturday!!! On that day, we discusssed about having a Midnight Mass and a party for coming X'Mas and New Year!

Well, I decided the deadline to set the date for the Midnight Mass and the party. (Pardon my boldness.) So, the deadline is on 10th December, 2007. Therefore, if there is no one who objects or suggests the date, we are going to reserve the room for the Mass and the party on the date of 31 Dec 2007! First, we were afraid that, ABAC wouldn't allow us to stay that late! But now I went to ask them about that and they told me that if we ask Br. Amnuay first, then it will be ok as we celebrating Mass there!!! And I am going to talk to Br. Amnuay soon enough and I will let you know all!!!

And I have a suggestion letter for the X'Mass and New Year's party..... I will attached with this post!!! Please feel free to suggest for the activities and for the food as well..... Thanks for your time! Ok! The following is the suggestions:

Don't you all think dinner should be around 6:30pm or 7:00pm? Even if you want to have late dinner, isn't it better, if we have at least two hours ahead before Mass.....? for the gift..... I don't think that is needed...

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii mycs friends ,

Here's some suggestion for the Christmas party. During the party there's gonna be some programs as usual. Some suggestions are as followed.

1. Holy Mass on 31 Dec ( or ) 30 ? ( Feel free to suggest)
2. Gospel songs ( Karaoke / live ? )
3. Welcoming New Year Ceremony
4. Midnight Mass

So for these activities , we gonna need to make a room reservation in ABAC. ( Please tell us who's gonna take the task). Someone suggest that it's better to invite our christian church friends to celebrate. We can invite them to join with gosple songs.

So, let's think about the Christmas program. Next week after rosary. We gonna talk about it.

Dear All,

I am sorry that I didn't update for last two weeks. I am a little bit busy as well as lazy. The followings are the things that I would like to inform you all about this month! Thanks for your time!!! ;)

This coming Saturday, there will not be a Mass celebration. There will be one after X'mas though. The date will be announced after chosen.
After Rosary, we talked with Jue Jue and Phyo Kyaw who went to the conference. They are going to share their experiences in the coming Mass!!!
And one more, I regrettably inform you all that there will not be an annual retreat during the semester break that is the time during X'mas because there are some inconveniences.
But there will be an annual retreat for sure, the problem is that when it will be held! ;)
And another one, X'mas carol is also cancelled because right before X'mas all the undergraduate students have midterm exam.

For Christmas Choir

Dear All,

This morning, Sandra met Sr.Boonlert and talked about Xmas's choir. There is a change of plan for this year, the choir will be needed 18 people only: 5 sopranos, 5 altos, 4 tenors and 4 basses therefore, only 10 girls and 8 boys will be included in this year choir. Sr. assigned Sandra to choose whom to participate in the choir and Sr. suggested the following facts.

Participant must take responsibility to come for every week’s practice. (First priority)
Participant should understand and familiar with music and should be able to follow the guidance of the conductor.

For those who are interested in participating in the choir, please feel free to contact Suzanne (0890558148) and Sandra (0892291578) for further information. Please decide and inform them before this coming Saturday (3rd Nov, 2007) for the practice will begin this coming Sunday (4th Nov, 2007).

Today, we talked about meeting with other catholic groups for tomorrow. There will be meeting with other catholic groups like CUCT, IMCS, and etc... Therefore, MYCS members will go and join there. The place would be at Ramkhamheang University. To go there, MYCS members will gather near ABAC Bookstore, for those who would like to join to that meeting can go to meet the members near ABAC Bookstore.
There will be X'mas carol and choir practise after rosary from now on.
Today, we welcomed all the new comers.

First of all, thanks for Suzan who is helping us to arrange for our retreat location. As we had discussed yesterday at CONDO II after rosary, most of us agree to make retreat in last week of December where we can also celebrate HAPPY NEW YEAR together.But before we make final decision, pls advise if you have some idea to have a better retreat.

For MYCS annual retreat, this coming retreat will not be happening on the last week of October because of the location problem! So, I am thinking about making it happen in the last week of this year, this would be around december 27 to 31... That is the mid-semester break... so I am thinking that... would it be a good time for all to do the retreat?

Or we can do the retreat on third week of March 2008... But I am afraid there won't be much participant as it is the summer break! For those who can't join on Sat, please kindly give your ideas by replying back to me or those who can join on Sat, we can discuss about that on coming Saturday after we finished the Rosary.
